This lecture covers the main macromolecules found in cartilage (i.e. the proteoglycans and collagens) and the importance of bound water to the physiological function of cartilage. I then go into bits about how cartilage breaks down in degenerative joint diseases with the aggrecanases (ADAMTS’s) on aggrecan and MMPs on collagen etc
