Abstract：
Much insight has been gained about the workings of language via priming paradigms in psycholinguistics. In this talk, I will introduce structural priming, a paradigm that exploits the tendency for people to repeat lexico-syntactic choices in language use. I will first introduce the structural priming as a language phenomenon and research paradigm. Then I will discuss studies that use structural priming as a tool to tap into the syntactic representation of contentious construction (e.g., verb-phrase ellipsis, missing-argument construction). In the third part, I will discuss the use of structural priming to investigate the lexical and syntactic representations in bilinguals. Finally, I will review the recent application of structural priming to explore the hypotheses that different cognitive domains (e.g., language, mathematics, music) share the same structural representations/procedures.
