报告摘要:
A general overview concerning the physics of highly charged ions is given. Typical highly charged ions are Ne10+, Ar16+, and Xe30+produced by specific accelerators named electron cyclotron resonance source. When a highly charged ion approaches a metal surface, several electrons are captured into highly lying Rydberg states so that hollow atoms are produced. These fascinating species of neutral atoms carry a lot of potential energy, which can be dissipated into a solid within a small range of nanometers. It will be shown that the solid reacts by emitting several electrons and neutral target atoms which may form nanostructures on top of the surface. Moreover, when highly charged ions are send to through nanotubes (capillaries) in insulating materials, such as polymers, they create charge patches at the inner wall so that the following ions are deflected. Hence, a novel phenomenon of ion guiding through a long tiny capillary can be observed. A selective number of experiments with highly charged ion will be presented in conjunction with model calculations.
