讲 座2： Cosmopolitanism, Citizenship and Diaspora in Monica Ali’s In the Kitchen

内容提要：The talk proceeds from contemporary concepts of citizenship in the context of migration, which will then serve as the framework for an analysis of Monica Ali's novel In the Kitchen (2009), which focuses on an individual's search for solidarity and responsibility with strangers. This is presented as a metaphorical negotiation of cosmopolitan citizenship in a transcultural environment. The transcultural community of the kitchen will be discussed as a space of cosmopolitan citizenship. The collective experiences of solidarity and responsibility that represent cosmopolitan citizenship help to develop a sense of social justice in the novel. This shapes the main character's search for his identity and the construction of a life-narrative.
