摘要: In this lecture, I will explain the underlying scientific principles used in corpus linguistics studies. First, I will demonstrate how a simple mathematical law can describe many properties of languages in general. I will then explain how this law can be used to guide developers in the design of new corpora. Finally, I will discuss various statistical methods that are used in popular corpus tools, and show how they can generate interesting and useful discoveries about language.
