Multiphase systems exist in engineering equipment as well as in nature. It is shown in this seminar that thermal-fluids engineering theories are very useful not only in energy and power engineering but also in some interdisciplinary investigations such as in planetary sciences or in space exploration. This seminar covers the following aspects: (1) overview of some typical multiphase systems in energy & power engineering; (2) investigations of gas-liquid systems: (i) an optimum design of a Kalina cycle system; (ii) a study of CO2-driven geysering; (3) overview of some fascinating phenomena caused by multiphase systems in nature; (4) investigations of multiphase systems under extraterrestrial conditions: (i) numerical simulation of gas-liquid geysering flow on Mars; (ii) a study of gas-ice (clathrate hydrate) system under very low temperature conditions on Enceladus, a small moon of Saturn; (5) The relationship between engineering and science.
