简介:
Peter Morshuis has an MSc and PhD degree in electrical engineering.
His mission is “To motivate young people to be creative and to explore the world at the interface between different fields of science. To organize events in which scientists with different fields of expertise have in-depth discussions about challenging research. To start research projects in the field of HVDC and renewables for a more sustainable future.”.
Between 1999 and 2016 he was an associate professor in high voltage engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
His main research fields are HVDC, nanocomposites, partial discharges, space charge, functional materials, and monitoring and diagnostics of insulation systems. Currently he is working on new generation UHVDC cable systems and on ocean wave energy converters based on electroactive polymers.
In 2012 he founded Solid Dielectric Solutions, a company focusing on training and education and consultancy in the field of dielectrics and electrical insulation.
In 2015 he started with three friends and colleagues the IEEE DEIS Summer School series in Bertinoro, Italy, a new way of motivating and challenging PhD students in the field of dielectrics and electrical insulation. In 2016 the Summer School was organized in Xi’an, China, and in 2019 the fifth Summer School will be organized again in Bertinoro, Italy.
Very recently, in January 2019, he became visiting professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University for three years sponsored by the Shaanxi 1000 Talents Programme.
He is chairman of the IEEE DEIS Publications committee, chairman of the IEEE International Conference of Dielectrics and active in various IEEE and Cigré committees. In 2013 he was rewarded with the IEEE Eric O. Forster Memorial Lecture and in 2015 he became a distinguished IEEE DEIS lecturer.
