温长云1983年本科毕业于西安交通大学，1989年博士毕业于澳大利亚Newcastle University，1989至1991年在澳大利亚Adelaide University从事博士后研究，1991年加入新加坡Nanyang Technological University(南洋理工大学)，现为该校终身教授。
温教授目前主要从事Adaptive control, autonomous robotic system, intelligent power management system, complex systems and networks方向的研究，曾获2017年IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics最佳论文奖，2005年新加坡工程师学会卓越工程成就奖等，并于2009年评选为IEEE Fellow，先后担任IEEE Control System Society Distinguished Lecturer（2010-2014年），IEEE Fellow委员会委员（2011-2013年，主要负责评估审核涵盖所有IEEE研究邻域里的Fellow提名人及推荐合格的IEEE Fellow）；IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control（2000-2002年） 的Associate Editor等。温长云教授现任第 46 届 Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society（IECON 2020）总主席；Automatica（自2006年起），IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (自2013年起），以及IEEE Control Systems Magazine（自2009年起）Associate Editor，Journal of Control and Decision 执行主编，并任多个国际会议的大会主席，程序委员会主席等。他已发表近250篇国际顶尖学术刊物文章（包括近100篇 IEEE Transactions 和近40篇Automatica 文章），180篇国际会议文章， 5本专著和7个章节等。
