摘要：Crystalline polymers have complex structures across scales, from angstroms to millimeters. Understanding these relationships has revealed previously elusive structural details and molecular mechanisms. Key contributions include: First, Understanding interactions between nucleating agents and polymers, enabling control over their mechanical and optical properties. Second, Revealing the structure of isotactic polypropylene’s beta phase, introducing the concept of frustration in polymer crystallography. Third, Clarifying the "Brill transition" in nylons, first reported in 1942. Fourth, Identifying fold surfaces in crystalline polymers as nucleation sites for secondary crystallization.

讲座人介绍

Professor Bernard Lotz is Director of Research (Emeritus) at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). He spent his career at the Institute Charles Sadron and has held visiting and invited professor positions at several international institutions. He received the 1973 Prize of the French Polymer Group and the 1989 Fraser P. Prize from the University of Amherst, and was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1986. His research focuses on phase transitions, and the structure and morphology of crystalline polymers and biopolymers across various length scales. He has authored or coauthored over 330 papers and book chapters.
