讲 座3： Flawed Creations: From Frankenstein’s Monster to Dystopian Androids in Literature and Film

内容提要：Ever since Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818) literature explored the question of second creation, life created by scientists who claimed the place of their own creator. Blade Runner (1982/1992/2007) by Ridley Scott (*1937) is the film adaptation of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (1968) by Philip K. Dick (1928-82), a novel about a post-apocalyptic civilization that explores off-world colonies. Both novel and film stand in a complex combination of various traditions of dystopian and science fiction novels about artificial life forms and artificial intelligence. In the talk a number of literary texts and films featuring artificial life will be introduced. Finally, novel and film will be interpreted in more detail before their respective literary and cinematic backgrounds and in the context of Scott’s Prometheus (2012). The flawed relationship between creator and creature, the failure to live up to this responsibility turns society into Frankenstein’s dystopian world.
