But recent years have witnessed increasing introduction of electronics and computational systems enabling a progressive transfer of the image-formation function from traditional optical systems to hybrid optical-digital imaging. Fusing techniques inspired by RADAR, x-ray imaging and communications theory; computational imaging includes computer recovery of images as an integral component of imaging-system design and implementation to yield imaging systems with unprecedented functionality. Using computational imaging it is now possible for the first time to image with both high resolution over extended depth ranges; for the performance of $100 computational-imaging microscope to equal a $100,000 microscope or to record 3D images in a single snapshot. This talk will describe the application development and application of new computational imaging in fields ranging from surveillance systems to microscopy.
